**So lately after watching
this vid I've gotten really interested in trying out different 'gourmet' rootbeers. I had no idea there were actually that many types of rootbeer (or soda for that matter) in existance! And I didn't realize they made good ones with cane sugar vs. corn syrup. So I started scouring the internet for good reviews of what types of rootbeer there were out there.. I came across
this, and
this for starters, which pointed me in the right direction of which rootbeers to hunt down. Sadly some of the best ones are very hard to find.....at least in this part of the country

...
First off I found Virgil's at a local Hannaford's supermarket in the healthy food section

this tasted good compared to something like Barq's or IBC .. it was very non offensive .. not much foam ('head') and no caffiene, it's made with all sorts of neat stuff and is amazingly Gluten Free (!) .. It has a very 'full' rootbeer taste.. no real special aftertaste to speak of... and yea... not bad at all! A bit expensive though.. $6+ for a 4-pack
Next I ran into this at a local healthfood store

And holy cow: licorice city! ... it's certainly rootbeer, that's for sure.. not really over carbonated or anything .. not offensive .. but man, it has a very weird licorice aftertaste.. it's not really a
bad taste per se.. but wow.. really different... I probably couldn't drink this everyday, but still not bad .. also has lots of natural good-for-you ingredients
Next Corrine found me a bottle of this in Cambridge ..which is currently my clear favorite rootbeer

Capt. Eli's Rootbeer! They mainly sell this in New Hampshire and Maine (as that's where it's made!) .. man, this is good stuff.. it has a real full-bodied taste ..yea, there's some preservatives in there, but yum! it has a nice sweet aftertaste .. i could drink this stuff everyday!
NExt up .. I found this in Stop&Shop supermarkets ..though I think I saw it at Target too

Jones Rootbeer ... what a strange label this bottle has.. from what i hear, they get random picture submissions on their website and choose one to put on their label.. i thnk they even have customer's quotes on the inside of the bottlecaps if i recall right.. anyway.. the taste - yea, not bad.. nothing stand outish about this rootbeer, but it was another good contender.. definitely something i would choose over a Barq's or IBC/mug/A&W/et. al
Finally I've picked up some of this ... Iron Horse .. my friend Corrine found it at Leo's in cambrige.. I had heard it was good

Unfortunately this one was one that had corn syrup for sweetener... and yea.. it showed.. this rootbeer didn't taste bad.. but yea.. it was very bland and watery to my taste buds.. amazing as had I not tasted the other ones I probably would have liked it, but it totally paled in comparison to Capt. Eli's or Virgil's
**On another non-rootbeer note, I've decided to up my geek cred by eating Ramen Noodles.. I was chatting wtih my friend Beth one night on AIM and when I mentioned I'd never had Ramen she was horrified. Lemme see if I can find the quote......Ah yes here it is

(10:08:56 PM) Beth: the cup of noodles is delicious!

(10:09:23 PM) me: yea know.. strangely i've never had Ramen
(10:10:18 PM) Beth: !!!!

I decided I do indeed like Ramen..albeit without the 'flavor packets' they include.. my god those flavor packets are salty.. yikes! this, coming from someone who likes salt on his food too.. man, those can't be good for you!
