**My picutres (and Teh_Lurv's) are up from our trip to DragonCon in Atlanta,GA .. I still haven't updated the captions yet, and some of the blurry pics I'll probably take down, but they're all dumped in there for now! Enjoy! DragonCon 2011

-- August 28, 2011, 4:38pm -- FIBERGLASSING
**Here's the results of my attempt at fiberglassing a form. I used styrofoam, shapped it, wrapped it in aluminum foil, and then covered it with fiberglass cloth and regular polyurethane resin
First off here's the wood attachment piece I'm going to glue to the crescent on the staff
 and the crescent
and how it will look attached
I've just gone and tried gluing the pieces together.. then i plan on using putty to shape a connecter piece and then it's just painting and it'll be finished!

-- August 25, 2011, 8:48am -- MAGICKA
**Well, as this site has less and less in the way of updates, I figure perhaps it may be best for me to use it more for tracking my creative builds (costume, computer, and others) .. with that in mind I've taken a couple shots of some props i've been building for the upcomming Magicka group my friends are putting together for DragonCon ..
shots incomming,.......

okay, so here's the 'Magick' book as seen in the ghame that I've come up with.. it's a little narrower than what you see, but as Teh_Lurv found me a cardboard book when we were in Michaels, I figured it was the easiest to just convert this

next we have the replica M60 you use in the game .. I found a toy one for $12 at KMart .. it was all green and black, so i sprayed it silver and then black .. missed a few spots, but whatever... i left the orange tip just in case so that i don't get hassled

next is the tricky part.. I've been trying to make the Generic Staff that they use.. this involved some 10' section of PVC from Lowes.. about 1" diameter .. cut that down to 2x5' sections and then 2x2.5' sections. In the picture above I used Mighty Putty to mold some of the detail work on the top part of the staff.. it's very rough, but it'll do I think ...

I decided to make a sort of 'quick-release' bit for the crescent part that will top the staff.. I figure i'll attach it to a small bit of wood at the top with putty .. then I can just remove the srew/slide it out for packing

finally here's how i join the 2x2.5' sections.. I used putty to secure the threaded bits in the ends of the pipe.. it screws together to be 5' tall
more later when I get some pictures of the crescent bit I've been fiberglassing

**Oh hey, ConnectiCon was this past weekend.. It was good fun like usual .. but it definitely went by too fast.. the new costume was a decent success I think, minus a few wardrobe malfunctions. Pictures are up.. Hit the Pictures link in the menu if you're interested.. Now to deal with modifications till it's time for DragonCon **Has some mild post-con depression .. but mostly due to the looming workday on saturday I think

-- July 4, 2011, 10:31pm -- CONNECTICON APPROACHES
**Wow, I haven't updated in a while... I've mainly been using this website to track my current obsession: comicbooks .. yea yea.. Another geeky passtime to add to my list.. but I'm rather impressed I must say int he quality of some of the writers.. Now you might saw 'quality writting' and 'comics' shouldn't be in the same sentence, however I beg to differ... Impressive authors such as Chris Claremont and Walter Simonson I think stand vastly apart from the simple "zap!" and "pow!" comics of the Kirby/Lee days of the 60s **Also to note - this thursday is ConnectiCon! woot! A few more years and I'll have been going there for 10 yrs pretty shocking indeed... I think this year will be year 8 for me... Crazy how time flies. So for this years' cosplay ideas I think I'll stick with the ol' tried and true Homestarrunner for Friday and then rock the Star Trek: TNG Security officer either Saturday or Sunday depending on how things go... Another costume project that I recently undertook at the prodding of the Lurv and Corrine are Magicka robes! There's an onilne site where you can buy premade bathrobes in the same style, however I figured if we had a pattern (and we did!) I would save the time/money by trying to make my own (with some sewing assistance of course).. Most of the gruntwork has been done and the final robe is just about assembled ... for props I think I can re-purpose my renfaire staff to serve for now until I can create a proper replica of the Generic staff int he game... I've also got a cardboard 'book' that I can put as perhaps another item if I decide to not get an M60 replica **More later if I can think of it! Also..... Happy Fourth of July as it were Scribbles (0)
